This past few weeks have been crazy on my end. For those that follow me on Instagram and read my stories you know that a friend/co-worker was injured badly at the horse park and I have been helping to take care. Thankfully she will be OK and is recovering. With the injury and a huge event at work that I was planning, I wasn’t able to get my post out to you on time. I am finally catching a breath and getting back to my routine…. so bear with me.
First let me say, thank you to all those that messaged and commented on my previous post. Thank you for your tips on Facebook and on IG. I so appreciate all the tips and definitely helped.
Back to my progress! So, I placed the pattern pieces on my fabric in my last post and played with the placement of the image, patterns, muslin, etc. before I decided to cut. I was so nervous, and I never get nervous cutting fabric so it was so weird. Figuring out the placement of these darn flowers had me totally stressed and frustrated. At last I took my first cut, then the second, third and fourth. Something in my head told me to stop and look at the placement. That sewing fairy on my shoulder said “Girl….. you better check what you are doing!” I listened to the fairy (LOL) and realized that ugh I didn’t cut the Front Side Piece 2 to flow with the front. I was so devastated because I feel that I wasted a yard of fabric. I really hate wasting fabric.
I took a step back and went and had ice cream…like I really needed to add extra pounds. After 2 cup fulls I went back upstairs and decided to “MAKE IT WORK”! I took the pieces I cut and then placed them on the fabric and realized where my mistake happened. I just moved one of the pieces and didn’t think it out clearly. I finally cut piece 2 and 4. I have last to cut the back piece but in my mind I am trying to hold on to the first (piece 2) pattern pieces I cut so that I can try and selvage those. (I hope this makes sense). Like I said this fabric is gorgeous but not the right fabric for this pattern in my opinion. I know however it is going to come out nice and I can see the final outcome.
I plan on doing final sewing and constructing this weekend. I took off Friday and Monday, just to get some much needed sewing done. How is your dress coming along? If you are using this print or ankara print that doesn’t mirror I would suggest buying 2 sets. If I had a total of 2 more yards on top of the 6 it would have worked out seemless. Definitely a lesson learned.
Suggested Tip
Make sure to mark the pattern with directions. I chose to put R for Right side Front and the number of
the piece. This helped me out when it finally clicked in my head. I was able to also remember where the pattern went as there are many pieces.
