When I received a message in my inbox about possibly reviewing fabric for FiberstoFabric I looked at their Etsy Shop to see what kind of fabrics they had and whether it would be my style. I immediately felt a sense of relatedness. As you know my family is from Ghana, West Africa and I appreciate various cultures and Indian culture is definitely one. Besides loving the food and music, I love the beautiful fabric and textiles, especially the handmade garments.
The fabrics on their page reminded me of batik fabric that I would see made in Ghana. However, this fabric is cotton that is so soft and breathable. I scanned through their site and picked two items I think would compliment each other nicely. Unfortunately, the fabric is now out of stock, however they have some gorgeous prints that I plan to order.
My initial thought was to make a caftan with the trim. However, after looking at the fabric I knew that I wanted a cute top that I could dress up or down. I used my dressform to drape the fabric to decide what I what I wanted to do.
I used the Vogue 9292 pattern for the bodice by cutting to the waist and McCall’s 7047 for the peplum at the waist.
I styled my finished look with a pair of mustard colored pants that I made using the the #m7726 McCall’s Pattern Company paper bag pants.
I plan on wearing many bright colors this summer. What about you?
xoxo,
Monica
