The boyfriend blazer is definitely an item you want in your wardrobe this Fall. The Simplicity #S8697 blazer is a great wardrobe builder. The longest part of sewing it was making sure that the finishings were nice and neat. I chose to do a Hong Kong finish in mine by using brown bias tape in two sizes. I love bias tape but it is a long process and well worth the time once you see it completed.
The Fit
This jacket is meant to fit baggy. I sewed for my measurements and the only adjustments I made were to the length of the sleeve and front and back pieces. I am 5ft and the pattern when tissue fit came right up above my knee, so I definitely needed to shorten it. This pattern is meant to fit loose as you see on the pattern cover. However, it is very easy to bring it in more snug. Also, note that it is a very straight boxy cut so if you are looking for something with more of a curve you may need to make.
Styling
I chose to style the blazer in two ways. One with a belt the other without. I chose skinny jeans and over the knee open toe boots in an olive color. I can definitely see more ways to style it, with wide leg pants in brown or black. I love adding the belt detail as it gave it a fitted look.
I also added elbow patches for the final look. I am definitely planning on making another one!
No you didn’t add elbow patches! So classic! I’ve been wanting to do that for years.
Yes I added them and now I am obsessed!
Great styling! A blazer and jeans is basically my uniform for cooler weather so I need total some inspiration from this and up my blazer game!
Allison, yes a blazer and jeans is a great uniform. That is my weekend look as well!! I need to make some more!!
