It’s the Fall and it’s one of my favorite seasons!! Are you ready for all the suedes, plaids, fall colors and most importantly the fashions? Well, I am, and I am ready to sew up all of the fabulous Fall fabrics. I walked into @joann_stores and immediately fell in love with these fabrics. This plaid wool and scuba faux suede is bringing me into the Fall just right.
I love all seasons, however the Fall is definitely one of my favorite seasons since I love layering pieces, the foliage and just knowing that the holidays are right around the corner.
I enjoy creating separates and the Fall is also about layers. I love how I used my two fav patterns to create this look Butterick #b6244 and the Katya skirt by @lenalinepatterns.
This Butterick pattern has always been a favorite of mine. When I first started sewing it actually was one of my first jacket patterns to make. The simple design lends itself to many various fabric choices and it is truly great for the fall as a layered piece. When I walked into JoAnn I saw both fabrics and instantly knew that I needed to make this out of its pattern again. That’s it off my pattern check it out first but then and this is what you see.
Let’s talk about the fabric. For the plaid, there are two different sides to the fabric and I wanted to showcase both. This wool blend is amazing to work with. One side is soft and with two different textures you could wear it inside out if you wanted.
I made a few modifications to this pattern with regards to the finishing’s. The pattern calls for a Flat Felled Seam however for the sleeves I chose to do a French Seam as it is easier to navigate under the machine since this is a wool fabric. I love French Seams, as they are great if you don’t have a serger and keeps everything clean on the inside. If you don’t plan on wearing the jacket inside out you can easily serge it or use bias tape in a complimentary color to finish the seams.
As I said earlier, I really love the Fall weather, especially for the fashion and I couldn’t just sew the jacket alone. I needed an entire outfit! This beautiful scuba faux suede fabric caught my eye and I knew that it needed to be part of my outfit. What better pattern to show off this fabric and drape then the Katya skirt. For the skirt, I am 5 foot tall so the pattern is long and I had to shorten it just past my knees.
Both fabrics gave me the lux feel I was going for. I love sewing pieces that compliment my style, wardrobe and are versatile so that I am able to wear them often. You will definitely see these pieces on repeat all Fall.
