When one of my favorite sewing sisters called me and told me she had recommended me for the Fabrics & Fabrics Sewcialite Spotlight I was so excited. I truly love all the fabric she collects and am saving my coins so when I head back home to NYC I can do some major fabric shopping with her instead of holding her bags.
Fabrics & Fabrics is based in NYC and ladies and gents when I tell you that their fabric is quality and so beautiful… I truly mean it!
Set on the corner of West 38th and 8th Avenue, in the heart of New York’s garment district, Fabrics & Fabrics prides itself on having one of the largest selections of couture fabrics in North America. A family-owned, family-run business, Fabrics & Fabrics continues to be the premier luxury-quality fabric store and is proud to serve the theatre, film and television industries. You may even spot many of their fabrics on famous celebrities and red carpet events.

For my collab I decided to choose two fabrics that I knew could stand alone as well as go to together. I enjoy mixing prints and this was my way to show my design process. The fabric had a slight misprint but I really wanted it and knew that by pleating it you wouldn’t be able to see it. It is a beautiful Rosette Floral 100 % Silk Twill with large scale prints. The vibrant colors of purple, red, lavender, white, teal and khaki just pop!
For the pleats I used the fork method to create the pleats. I didn’t need them to be perfect in size but I did want to see a pleating affect. I used spray starch and pins to hold the pleats and the let the skirt hang overnight. I also, gave it a good press the following day with some light starch. I chose to do a pleated wrap skirt and kept the pleats exposed at the top and used a tie piece to close.

For the second fabric I chose this beautiful geometric 100% silk Crepe de Chine. With vibrant colors of purple, magenta, orange and white.
For the top I chose a body suit pattern from Simplicity Patterns #S8789 as I only had just about 2 yards and knew this would work perfectly. I also wanted a piece that I could throw on together with the skirt or with jeans.
