OMG!! I am so excited about how my dress is coming along. I can see the finish line and can’t wait to style it. I am thinking of type of fascinators I can wear. Should I make my own? Should I buy one? What color? Shoes, gloves, etc….. there is so much possibilities and I am so here for it!!
In my last post I worked on stepped 5 but I remember after I sewed the back pieces together I decided to use an invisible zipper instead. I personally like the look of the invisible zippers on a formal dress.
I didn’t follow step 5 an 6. I did an invisible zipper instead. You can follow the instructions on installing the zipper on the package. Here is a quick view of how I did my zipper. (It is not a tutorial).
- Open the zipper pull
- Use your finger to press out the teeth and press along the zipper tape. Making sure that your iron is not too hot. Your are just going to press lightly to press out the curled zipper teeth to lay flat.
- Lay the zipper face down (zipper pull side down) on the right side of the fabric. You will pin the right side of the zipper tape to the right side of the fabric.
- Pin the zipper tape in place. I use as many pins as possible to keep it straight and remove them as I sew. Do not sew over your pins. You could also hand baste in place if you choose.
- Do the same to the other side of fabric.
- Sew your zipper using your invisible zipper foot.
STEP 7.
Stay Stitch side edges of back above waistline.
step 8.
Pin Side Back (4) sections to back, clipping back where necessary. Baste. Stitch. I chose to baste if first and then do a fit test to make sure everything fit. I did this by pinning all the pieces and carefully stepping into the garment to see if I needed any adjustments.
Step 9.
Pin back to front at shoulders, matching seams. Stitch.
Step 10.
Stitch one POCKET (5) section (fabric) to back at each side in a 1/4″ (6mm) seam. Press seams towards pockets. Stitch one pocket (lining) section to front at each side in 1/4′ (6mm) seam. Press seams towards pocket linings.
I decided not to use a lining. Instead I chose to use the fabric.
