For the December #sewyourview I sewed up a pair of pjs. My goal was to do them for the whole family but after my brother’s wedding in December and my large event installation, my son got sick and then I a few days later. I was out of commission for about 2 weeks and really didn’t start feeling better till right before Christmas and didn’t get them done till after. I had a red and black buffalo check fabric in mind, however when I went to my monthly sewing group Project Sew I opened my bags and realized that...
When one of my favorite sewing sisters called me and told me she had recommended me for the Fabrics & Fabrics Sewcialite Spotlight I was so excited. I truly love all the fabric she collects and am saving my coins so when I head back home to NYC I can do some major fabric shopping with her instead of holding her bags. Fabrics & Fabrics is based in NYC and ladies and gents when I tell you that their fabric is quality and so beautiful… I truly mean it! Set on the corner of West 38th and 8th Avenue,...
When I chose to make the cape for this month’s #sewyourview I already had a look in mind. I knew that I wanted leather trimming and that I wanted some sort of tweed wool looking fabric. I ran across the fabric I used at one of my favorite places, Wherehouse Fabrics off of Harry Hines Blvd in Dallas, TX. As soon as I saw it I knew right then I wanted that for my cape. Does that happen to you where you either have a fabric in mind or see a fabric that you love and then...

I was contacted by Pinecrest Fabrics to collab earlier this summer. After taking some time to comb through their extensive catalog of fabric I settled on a abstract print, a solid olympus black and black mesh fabric. Now let me tell you about this gorgeous fabric. Their fabric is high quality spandex which has has a greater stretch and compression quality for athletic leisure garments. It’s a 4- way stretch, which makes it a comfortable fabric while moving or relaxing. The fabric has such a good drape and it feels so soft and smooth to the touch. The best...
The boyfriend blazer is definitely an item you want in your wardrobe this Fall. The Simplicity #S8697 blazer is a great wardrobe builder. The longest part of sewing it was making sure that the finishings were nice and neat. I chose to do a Hong Kong finish in mine by using brown bias tape in two sizes. I love bias tape but it is a long process and well worth the time once you see it completed. The Fit This jacket is meant to fit baggy. I sewed for my measurements and the only adjustments I made were...
What better way to bring in the Fall but with this blazer pattern by Simplicity Creative Group. Simplicity #S8697 gives the sewer 3 options. It’s a larger cut and could be dressed up or down. I love the versatility of this boyfriend blazer pattern. I know that I will see some great looks for this month. Are you going to join in?
Who is joining in on this sewalong. This Simplicity Pattern #S8642 has 4 options. But of course I see many more. Stay tuned for all the looks in the next week. My visit to NYC for my sisters graduation was a way for me to connect with my sewing. I have always had an interest in learning the processes of the patterns that I sew and how they go from a concept to a garment at home sewers like you and me sew daily. Visiting McCall’s The McCall’s Pattern Company is located not to far from the World Trade Center, a stopping ground for me when growing up in NYC as my mom worked near by and I would often visit her. It was definitely a nostalgic feeling while walking...
